Does going to the dentist make your heart race faster? Does even just the thought of the dental chair make your stomach hurt? If you find yourself feeling anxious about dental appointments, you should know that you’re not the only one who feels this way.
At Park Place Dental, we understand how you feel and we want to help you get the dental treatment you need so we offer options for dental sedation so our patients can feel at ease. With different levels of relaxation, you’ll find an option that will allow you to feel comfortable at the dentist again.
What is Nitrous Oxide?
Also called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is administered in gas form through a mask worn during your treatment. Nitrous can help with many different types of procedures and it’s also safe for children.
Nitrous is able to help you feel relaxed quickly, and once the mask is removed it leaves your system right away. This means that it’s safe for you to drive after your appointments, and you’ll have no problem resuming your normal activities.
How Does Oral Sedation Work?
Oral sedation is administered through a pill taken 1 hour prior to your treatment. Due to the nature of the medication, you’ll experience a deeper relaxation than with nitrous, and you’ll likely feel as if you were sleeping even though you’re awake and responsive throughout the procedure. You’ll also have little to no memory of your appointment.
Oral sedation requires that you have transportation arranged both to and from your appointment, and you should plan to rest and relax for the remainder of the day.
What is IV Sedation?
IV sedation allows Dr. Joo to administer medication directly into your system intravenously. He will carefully monitor your heart rate and vital signs throughout your procedure. IV sedation delivers a very deep relaxation that works well for patients experiencing severe anxiety, who have special needs, or who have multiple and complex treatment procedures they would like to complete during one visit.
Dr. Joo has years of experience and advanced training in handling cases requiring dental sedation, so you can rest at ease knowing you’re in good hands. He can also help you determine the level of sedation that is best for your needs, so don’t hesitate to discuss your concerns and your needs with him prior to your treatment procedure.
