If you or a loved one is experiencing a tooth emergency, the first thing you may feel is panic. Dental emergencies can definitely feel stressful and overwhelming when you don't know what to do.

Instead of immediately heading to the hospital, it's a good idea to contact your emergency dentist in Barrie first. Hospitals are not equipped to handle most types of dental emergencies, and they will likely send you back to your dentist for treatment. It can save you valuable time and money to contact your dentist first.

Faster Pain Relief: Why Dentists Win on Speed

The primary goal of your dentist during a dental emergency is to provide you with relief from pain and same-day treatment whenever possible. Your team at Park Place Dental is well-equipped to handle several types of dental emergencies, including:

  • Knocked-out teeth — Time is of the essence in this case. Your emergency dentist has the best chance of saving your tooth within the first hour of the trauma. Transport the tooth carefully using saline, milk, or saliva to keep it moist; never water, which can damage cells.
  • Lost or broken restorations — A compromised filling, crown, or veneer could cause tooth sensitivity or pain. Even if it doesn't, it will still need to be addressed to minimize further damage or discomfort.
  • Toothaches or dental pain — A persistent toothache could indicate an abscessed or infected tooth. Tooth infections don't resolve on their own; without treatment, pain will persist, and the tooth may become unsalvageable.
  • Broken teeth — A broken tooth needs attention to keep it from causing discomfort or further damage. Even if your tooth is just chipped, it may need smoothing to prevent irritation of your gums and soft tissues.

When Is the ER the Right Choice?

If you've experienced jaw or facial trauma, the hospital may be your best option. However, you can contact your emergency dentist at (705) 728-9922, and we can provide guidance on the right next steps.
