It’s incredible how advancements in dental technology have enabled care providers to not only quickly and accurately diagnose and treat an increasing number of issues but to ensure greater patient comfort by doing so less invasively.

Of course, progress does not stand still. It’s only by investing in the latest technologies that a modern dental office like Park Place Dental continues to provide our patients with the highest-quality care.

On this note, we’re thrilled to announce the purchase of a CT scanner for Park Place Dental!

What Is a CT Scanner?

A computed tomography, or “CT” scanner is an imaging device that uses X-rays and computer algorithms to produce detailed 3D images of the insides of the body. A CT scanner allows medical professionals to non-invasively observe bones, organs, and tissues and identify abnormalities like tumors or blood clots. Uses for CT scans include cancer detection and internal injury diagnosis.

How Is a CT Scanner Used in Dentistry?

In dentistry, a CT scanner is used to create detailed 3D images of the teeth, jawbone, and surrounding structures. This comprehensive view of the oral region allows a dentist to identify issues that may not show up on traditional X-rays, like impacted or fractured teeth.

Also, CT scans provide measurements of bone density, volume, and quality, making them helpful in the planning of orthodontic treatments, dental implant placements, and oral surgeries.

The Benefit of Having an In-Office CT Scanner

CT scanners are actually not common in Canadian dental offices. As a result, most patients who need a CT scan must make an appointment at a radiology center. Not only is this time-consuming and inconvenient, but it also delays a dentist’s ability to provide an accurate diagnosis and begin treatment.

By having our own in-office CT scanner, we can eliminate this hassle and get right to the all-important task of treating our patients.
